Cues for Losing Direction is a work
made in the incubator of the
Social Software Cycle 2
project space, led by Casey Reas. The deck is a recombinant walk generator responding
to my feelings about walking in Los Angeles: the situational, ecological, and
untapped awareness while walking through my neighborhood. Heavily inspired by
Guy Debord's notion of the Derivé, and ambling practices from the Situationists,
the deck is intended to allow chance to forge the path, instead asking the user
to pay attention to features of their environment they may not otherwise.
Rooted in a foraging practice, the project seeks to bring the qualities of searching
and scavenging to aimless walking, qualities essential to building a relationship
with your environment.
Here is a sequence where the cards are pulled in a random order, leading to a unique walk out of thousands of routes
